cheers Lions Claverham Beer & Cider Festivalcheers

Lions Claverham Beer Festival is an annual event that is supported by the local community. It is designed to provide everyone with a great weekend, but of course to raise funds for local causes. To date well over 380 different beers and ciders have been featured with over £100,000+ raised for charities as diverse as Great Western Air Ambulance, Weston Hospice and Riding for the Disabled. This year the proceeds will help support local Lions' projects.
The dates for 2025 are 12th & 13th September

Over the weekend of Friday 28th and Saturday 29th of June 2024, Yeo Valley Lions held their annual Beer & Cider Festival at Claverham Village Hall. The weekend started with a Sponsor's Reception hosted by club President Roger Gibbins, and - after opening to the public - musical entertainment from local band Rum Kicks'kicked off' the festival in style.

Saturday afternoon is designated for families, and as well as providing many chidrens' treats at our barbecue tent, we were joined by an old fashioned Punch and Judy man, who kept the children (and adults!) in stitches.

For our Saturday night session we were delighted to welcome back festival favourite and Bristolian legend Daz Sims BEM, who entertained our audience in his own unique manner.

We had a selection of 25 beers to sample, 9 ciders, a premium gin bar and wine and lager for those for those who couldn't quite decide what to drink. A BBQ tent serving delicious locally produced burgers and hot dogs for those with an appetite.

The festival is a family friendly, local event supported by mainly local sponsors for a mainly local following, whilst at the same time attracting a loyal following from members of CAMRA - the Campaign for Real Ale.

This year the festival raised £4,000, which will be used to help our many projects in the local area. This was our 21st festival, and since the first one in 2003 (the only year we missed was due to Covid), we've raised £120,000.'

The dust has now settled on our 20th, held on 23 & 24 June 2023 at Claverham Village Hall. We had our usual 25 craft beers available together with 7 ciders and the ever popular Gin Bar. The choice of beers was applauded and the ciders 'flew off the shelf'. The fruit ciders were extremely popular and a hint for next time is to increase the quantity to avoid the embarrassment of running out early in the weekend!
The evening entertainment, The Twerzels and The Instigators, was well received and the Saturday afternoon family session was very well attended with the children's entertainer and face painter holding the youngsters' attention.
So, overall, with the weather kind to us and despite the clash with Glastonbury the event was considered a great success. We had great support from our sponsors and were able to declare the sum of £6000 as the proceeds of the Festival.
Some of this is retained for future Lions Club initiatives but the majority has
been distributed to the following charitable organisations:
Vision North Somerset
Brain Tumour Support
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
The Children's Trust (for Brain Injured Children)
Vine Counselling Services
Motor Neurone Disease Association
2nd Yatton Guide Company
Cleeve Claverham & Yatton Scout Group
We continue to appreciate the help of our sponsors, supporters, members and partners whose valuable contribution continues to make the event a success and a recognised community activity.
2022's festival was a great success helped in no small part by the magnificent weather.
