Almost 100 walkers, runners and cyclists set off on our 7th Strawberry Lion Challenge on Sunday 20 May in glorious sunshine.  The largest group of over twenty represented Cintre, a charity that helps adults with learning difficulties.  Some of the team ran to Axbridge whilst most of the others went to the Millennium Green at Winscombe.  Our youngest walker Susanna Fernandes aged 2 made it all the way to the Fisheries cafe and back. The Lions 50% of the sponsorship is designated to go to the Springboard Opportunities Group, this will amount to £1700 out of the total of £2881 collected as a result of the day. Sincere thanks go to all those who supported this tremendous effort. We were also very well supported by Yatton WI, 1st Wrington brownies, 1st and 3rd Yatton brownies, 2nd Yatton guides and the Young Carers team. Yeo Valley Lions Club launched in 2011 a new community initiative for people wanting to raise funds. Called ‘The Strawberry Lion 50-50', this charity walk offers enthusiastic walkers and families a chance to take part in a sponsored walk where half the money raised by walkers going to their organisation or chosen charity and half to Yeo valley Lions Club to use for local charities and community projects. The event gives participants the chance to experience a breathtaking charity walk over the picturesque Strawberry Line Heritage Trail, an 8 mile traffic free route through the heart of North Somerset, whilst generating funds for their organisation or charity.
